2 Mins with David Vu of My Kitchen Rules

Dappertude has always been focused on guiding men onto the dapper path, whether it is on the fashion side or lifestyle, we strive to inspire others and sometimes we get to meet people who also inspire others. Recently, we got down to sit down with the semi-finalist of My Kitchen Rules, David Vu, to have a chat about everything related to fashion and his summer food suggestions.

How did you get into fashion?

I’ll have to say it was my grandfather, back in Vietnam before he immigrated to Australia he was a famous tailor and everybody came to him to get suits made. He never lost that style and growing up, he’d always be the best-dressed man at the party, he’d always have his tailored suit, his bow tie on. He was the happiest man and I really learnt from him, when you look good you feel good so he was definitely a happy man.

Do you believe a suit can make a man?

I definitely believe a suit can make the man because you know, when you are not feeling too good and you put on a suit, there’s some power in that, you feel confident, you feel as if you can take on the world and I definitely believe the suit can make the man. It’s the little details… I don’t know, it’s the power of the suit.

What inspires you to be so well dressed?

I think my inspiration really is about how I feel, you know dressing up makes me feel good. It’s how I want to project myself to the world and how I want to present myself. I think when I go to an event or to a party I don’t believe that you can be overdressed, I don’t think being in a suit can be out of fashion..umm. I really think it really shows people that you are organised, you know how to take care of yourself and I think that’s really important.

Tips for this season?

For this season like I think fashion is like food, you don’t eat the same thing everyday so you don’t wear the same thing everyday and its really about mixing it up a bit and making the most of what you have in your wardrobe, mix the tops and bottoms, mix colours, have a little fun with it and have a really think of the details like a little pocket square or a different collared shirt can really change the whole outfit and give you a brand new look so definitely the tip this summer; mix it up with some cool linens, they breathe and you will be really comfortable and mix it up and have a little fun.

Food recommendations this season

Summer’s right around the corner, it’s going to be really hot, you know you want to be healthy and you want to fit into your suits whilst having summer bods, so I would recommend eating Vietnamese food, it…. It’s healthy, it’s delicious, it’s got textures, it’s just like the way you dress, there are different layers, there are different details and you know what, this summer eat Vietnamese food, look good and feel good. That’s the mantra.
