However, this same freedom oftentimes leaves your wallet playing catch up with ephemeral fashion trends. We’ve put together our timeless looks and personal favourites to see you through Australia’s cooler 2019 season and beyond.
To Button Down Or Button Up?
This one hasn’t changed in decades, and we don’t see it going anywhere! The functional and well-cut cotton shirt remains the Monday to Friday workhorse of the gentlemen’s closet. Our rotation includes crisp white; a range of heavier fabrics (perfect for the colder months) and a selection of lighter pastels
Neutral tones such as white, offer the astute gentlemen the perfect canvas to showcase their personality. Whether it’s a knitted tie or bespoke watch, this staple over an endless range of permutations whilst offering a functional style that can either be head-turning or bespoke sublimity.
Lighter tones such as sky blue and pastels, provide ample opportunity to showcase your eye for colour combinations. Beyond complementary tones be sure to consider fabrics and size when putting together your unique look.
My go-to for this season is a sky blue button-up paired with a green knitted tie. I choose to complete this look with a light pastel chino and either dress up or dress down with my choice of watch and jacket.
My thoughts
As a young male who likes to enter the boardroom with a bit of character, I’ll be toning down an otherwise ‘corporate workhorse’ blazer with an old staple in my closet – a textured denim button-up shirt that can also serve as a cooler buttondown. The heavier fabric is a waiting canvas for a daring woollen or knitted tie to complete a memorable look.
Whilst I won’t be wearing a three-piece Harvey Spector-Esque suit in these colder months. I am excited to experiment with timeless tones and textures, matching with daring timepieces and accessories that convey my personal style.
